Our Story
It all began in our most desperate hour…
Locked away with our lifelong secrets with sexuality, we turned to the internet in search of help – something, anything.
What we found would turn the page on our stories forever – a community of men writing boldly about their journeys with faith, sexuality, and masculinity. Their stories spoke life into our starving hearts: we were not alone.
One by one, we joined the fold, becoming a blogging brotherhood. Years later, a group of us cofounded this community called Your Other Brothers – a welcoming cry to our fellow wayward ones, just as we were once welcomed.
They are our story…
Your Other Brothers launched as a blog in the fall of 2015; a year later, we debuted a podcast, YouTube channel, and fundraising effort to cover our costs. We started gaining regular readers, listeners, viewers, and faithful supporters.
We created private spaces online for our supporters to connect and discuss topics together, from Discord to Zoom calls. We only noticed something special happening in our midst after some members posted our group’s first meetup photo.
Our supporters were more than mere followers or fans, and we were doing more than just telling our story for them in blogs or podcasts; thanks to them, we were building a new brotherhood, and they were becoming our story.
Like a long lost family reunion…
In 2018, forty-seven men converged in the hills of North Carolina for our first YOB retreat. They came from all over America, Canada, and the United Kingdom; they were married and unmarried; in their early twenties to upper sixties.
We laughed, we cried. We gathered in large groups and small, worshipping Jesus as one, in one room, after following him with one another around the world – some of us, for years.
“It was like a long lost family reunion,” someone said of our first-time gathering. It is now a familiar refrain several years – and several retreats – later.
We are your other brothers…
After nearly a decade of blogs, podcasts, retreats, and other community events as a for-profit organization, Your Other Brothers now stands side-by-side with Your Other Sisters under the pending nonprofit ministry of Your Other Family – a place for all believers to integrate these vital matters of faith, sexuality, and gender. Together.
We share our stories here at YOB for fellow queer or same-sex attracted people of faith, because we are with you as your other brothers. You need never again walk alone.
And we also share for opposite-sex attracted people of faith, because we are your other brothers, too – not somewhere far beyond the church but here in your midst, yearning to be known and loved like everyone else sitting in the pews beside you.
Your story beckons…
We never chose our story, but we believe we have been chosen for one another in this story.
So, settle into your seat as you explore our site – and if you feel so bold, grab a pen. Drop us a comment, or shoot us an email. Our community’s story turns from those blogging days of old to our nonprofit journey of today, and we have this unshakable feeling that you, too, have some tales to tell.
We’d be honored to hear your story as you learn more of ours. Perhaps both are already intertwining?
Our Values
From our roots as a blog to a flourishing podcast and community, our journey is guided by seven core values.
